All Or Nothing At All

Deuteronomy 5
Deuteronomy 6
Deuteronomy 7

Thought For Today “All Or Nothing At All”

Deuteronomy 6:4-5

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with ALL thine heart, and with ALL thy soul, and with ALL thy might.

Deuteronomy 5 re-emphasizes the Ten Commandments that were given in Exodus 20, as a reminder to the children of Isreal that God is still God. I pray that we look carefully at each of The Commandments written with God’s own finger on two tables of stone symbolizing Eternal permanence. Each Commandment represents characteristics about God that He wanted etched in our MINDS forever. The first four Commandments specifically deals with God and us and the last six deals with each other. The Lord sought to establish in His people principles that if obeyed, would keep them in harmony with Him.

Three times the word “ALL” is mentioned in verse 5 followed by three words that describe human emotions and affections. The word ALL comes from the Hebrew word, “Kol”, which means “the whole”, “complete”, “the entire”, and “the whole offering”.

Simply put, God is asking each of His children to willingly love Him so completely that nothing comes between or before love for God. The priority of the heart is wholly and entirely cemented to God. This means that we give nothing or no one the COMPLETE seat of our affections but God. Please read Colossians 3:1-3.

Our connection to God is like an antenna that signals telling us we’re too close to a person, place or thing more than we are to God. Included in this process is when we worship ourselves MORE than we worship and love God. Then He reminds us to humble ourselves before Him and He will exalt us in due time. This has nothing to do with self confidence and self esteem because God is the one who establishes this in each heart by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jeremiah 17:9 and Psalms 139:23-24 talks about the heart and how deceitful it is, who can know it. ONLY God knows the heart and mind. Satan cannot read the human heart or mind, but he has experimented with it through various internal and external temptations to see what we respond to over a period of time. This is why we’re encouraged to guard the avenues of the soul. Like the song I use to sing as a small kid that says, Oh lil eyes be careful what you see, Oh lil feet be careful where you walk. When the heart is fully surrendered to God, then whatever trials we face are REGULATED by God for our good. When the heart is NOT surrendered to God, He allows the choices and circumstances to chastise us so as to get our attention. Proverbs 3:11-12. We should always know that God loves us with an everlasting love, Jeremiah 31:3

It’s encouraging to know that God has our best interest at heart and has our back. Please read Romans 8:35-39. There are times when God will allow our plans to fail in order that His will becomes reality in our lives. Unreserved love and surrender to God positions us to receive unlimited and untold blessings and benefits because we’re in the flow with God and aren’t working against Him.

God gave us His ALL through Jesus. All He wants in return is our ALL.
